HMS NELSON All Ranks Garden Party And Beat The Retreat In Commemoration Of Falklands 30

Introduction

1. The Wardroom, HMS NELSON will host an All Ranks Garden Party and Royal Marines Beat the Retreat on 4 May 12 in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War. The aim is for a Naval and Commemorative occasion, principally between colleagues who served together in that war. Eligibility to apply for tickets will be under these criteria:

" All Rank members of the Naval Service awarded the South Atlantic Medal and who were still serving (or on terminal leave) on 30 Sep 11. For this event, the Naval Service includes the RN, RM and RFA including the Maritime Reserves;

" Officers in Command of Naval Service Units and Naval Parties at the time of their participation in the war;

" Civilians employed in Portsmouth Naval Base during the war who remained in full time civilian employment within Portsmouth Naval Base on 30 Sep 11;

" Associate and Life members of HMS NELSON Wardroom and WO&SRs Messes awarded the South Atlantic medal whilst in the Naval Service;

" Serving members of the Merchant Marine awarded the South Atlantic medal whilst in the Merchant Marine.

Timings

2. 1445 - Wardroom Garden Party commences
1640 - Beat the Retreat, faith service and sunset ceremony
1730 - Event concludes

3. Military: Uniform 1B / Blues (neg swords) or equivalent
Civilian and military personnel no longer on regular or reserve active duty: Lounge suit or veterans blazers (with medals)

Ticket Application

4. Entrance to this event will be by ticket only. Applications will only be accepted from personnel within the criteria at para 1.

5. Applications should be made in writing using the form at Annex A. One double ticket per applicant will be sold on a first come first serve basis. In bringing any guests, applicants are encouraged to consider bringing former Naval Service personnel that hold the South Atlantic medal, although all guests will be most welcome subject to a minimum age of 18.

6. Additional single tickets may be applied for on the form. Where demand exceeds supply, these additional tickets will be allocated to guests that are Retired members of the Naval Service who hold the South Atlantic medal in preference over others.

7. The closing date for ticket applications is 31 Mar 12.

8. This is a private event supported by the combined Messes of HMS NELSON. There will be a cost of £10 per person to attend. All profits will be donated to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Tickets will be despatched from early April.

10. Service accommodation will not be available in HMS NELSON except for those on regular or reserve active duty who qualify under normal entitlement (2012DIN01-039 refers).
